Part I: There are too many calories in this world
Calorie counts contain the most devastating and heartbreaking information. Almost every enjoyable food like chocolate and chips contain over 50 calories in one bite. One bite! One moment of pure pleasure from the crunch of salt or the sweet rush tastes so divine. Eat the whole chocolate bar for an average of 250 calories, half the calories of a typical diet meal in a diet plan to stay within 1500 calories per day. Factor in booze, pop, juice along with junk food snacks and the calories add up quickly. It usually takes less than 10 minutes to demolish a bag of chips or eat some other junk food snack. Don’t do it, the experts tell us but we can’t help ourselves.
There are too many calories in this world. The food industry must turn a profit for the shareholders and know what the people want. The people want high-calorie, convenience foods and snacks that reward them for staying at their desks at lunch to finish a report or that bit of sweet to cope with unexpected traffic on the way to pick up the kids from school or daycare. Food industry scientists invent new flavor chemicals and heighten the potency of sugar with creations like high fructose corn syrup and highly processed flour and corn. Selling junk food is easy and the food industry keeps consumers hooked with new variations and flavors on the same overly processed refined carbohydrate nightmare. |
